Ian Mearns MP Visits Petards

Ian Mearns, MP for Gateshead, visited Petards Joyce-Loebl based on Team Valley recently to meet staff and learn more about the company's products and recent contract wins.|
Ian heard how have the company have managed to combat the severe UK budget cuts by winning new business overseas and expanding their product portfolio.
Over 1000 of Petards advanced ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras were recently chosen for road policing projects in Dubai and Eastern Europe.
Within the rail sector, the company have undertaken projects which will see their eyeTrain on-board CCTV system protecting passengers travelling on the East Coast Mainline and Stansted Express train services.
Within the defence sector, Petards have continued to win orders to supply electronic counter measure equipment to Navy and Army helicopter fleets. The company also won a significant order from an Asian aerospace company to supply ruggedised LCD display equipment worth over £1million.
Commenting on the visit, Petards' Head of Defence & Security, Rob Waddington said "We were delighted to welcome Ian to Petards; he is a strong advocate of North East business and has very good links in the region.
We were also keen to stress the ongoing difficulties faced by commercial organisations operating in the UK Defence and Security sectors due to the severe cuts to budgets and slipping project timelines."
Ian Mearns commented on his visit, "I found the visit to Petards to be thoroughly interesting to see an innovative and inventive company working in a competitive global economy; and it was very useful from my perspective to hear about some of the issues the company faces; particularly in relation to contracts that stem from public funding through various Ministries within Government.
Furthermore, I will be working with colleagues across the region to try and help companies such as Petards in such difficult economic circumstances."
